“Pop Doritos” Are the Crunchy New Snack Taking Over Social Media

by Nathan Lanclos · July 12, 2026

Move over buttered popcorn—there’s a bold new snack trend taking over kitchens, movie nights, and social media feeds everywhere. It’s called Pop Doritos, and the idea is as simple as it is addictive: coat freshly popped popcorn in the cheesy, tangy seasoning found on Doritos.

The trend reportedly began when snack lovers started saving the flavor-packed crumbs left at the bottom of Doritos bags. Instead of throwing them away, people crushed the remaining chips into a fine powder and sprinkled it over warm popcorn. The result is a light, crunchy snack with the intense flavor of a tortilla chip.

Videos of people making Pop Doritos have quickly gone viral. Some use classic Nacho Cheese Doritos, while others experiment with Cool Ranch, Flamin’ Hot, Spicy Sweet Chili, and even mix multiple flavors together. A few especially dedicated snack creators blend whole chips in a food processor to create their own homemade “Dorito dust.”

The key is getting the seasoning to stick. Many recipes recommend lightly spraying the popcorn with melted butter or cooking oil before adding the crushed chips. Then, everything is tossed together in a large bowl until every piece of popcorn is covered.

Fans say Pop Doritos deliver the best of both worlds: popcorn’s airy crunch and Doritos’ powerful seasoning. It is also an easy way to transform an inexpensive bag of popcorn into something that feels new and exciting.

Of course, the trend has already inspired variations. People are adding shredded cheese, hot sauce, lime juice, jalapeños, and even crushed Takis.

Whether Pop Doritos become a permanent snack staple or simply the internet’s latest food obsession, one thing is clear: movie-night popcorn may never be boring again.
